“Strengthening community-led initiatives to prevent violence against children and young people in Kasese District through a coordinated approach” is the current project under PVAC cluster (RWECO) being implemented.

According to CRVPF evaluation report 2024, In the last 6 years, RWECO has been instrumental in addressing issues related to violence against children in Kasese District. A total of 2724 parents and caregivers have had their skills in Parenting and Spousal Relationships strengthened using the Parenting for Respectability parenting program, this has led to a reduction of corporal punishments at the household level, parents spending more time with their children, fathers getting more involved in parenting among others.

In the bid to strengthen this practice, RWECO is implementing another related program this time in a coordinated approach with other 2 clusters. To bring the other clusters to speed in parenting for respectability, RWECO conducted a training of cluster staff and new Community Based Facilitators (CBFs) to strengthen their skills and knowledge as coordinators, mobilizers and facilitators of parenting in their respective areas and positions.

The training that attracted staff from the partner clusters and new CBFs from AGPP and EYDCD saw them go through the 5 modules of Parenting for Respectability (PfR), namely Bonding and attachment, Discipline, Gender, Spousal relationships (4&5).

A number of role plays were done to deeply understand and analyse the situations in families in our communities, sharing personal life experiences and those in communities. This highly interactive training saw participants gain the knowledge in parenting for respectability and reflecting back in their own families.

Key take aways among others were that all parents in a family (Mother and father) are equally responsible for the up bringing of their children, need for respect of each  other in a family, maintaining a good spousal relationship.

The participants were in agreement at the end of the training to go and preach the Parenting for Respectability (PfR) gospel to the different beneficiary groups in their geographical areas of implementation. It was agreed that members can meanwhile checkout for the manuals at the CRVPF website  as we wait to get hard copies of the manuals. A road map was drawn to roll out these trainings.
