RWECO’s key thematic areas include;
1. Community Empowerment for Good Governance.
RWECO works to strengthen citizens’ ability to hold leaders accountable and demand better governance. They train communities on their rights, help them engage with local authorities, and promote transparency in how public resources are used. For example, they’ve trained grassroots leaders to advocate for fair policies and supported peace-building dialogues between communities and local leaders. This ensures people feel heard and can push for improvements in services like healthcare, water and education.
2. Children & Youth protection from Violence.
A big part of RWECO’s work focuses on stopping violence against children (VAC) in homes, schools, and communities. They run parenting groups to teach non-violent discipline, train teachers to create safe schools, and partner with religious leaders to challenge harmful cultural practices. This also focuses on special interest groups especially Children and Youth with disabilities. For instance, over 600 parents learned to replace corporal punishment with positive methods, and radio shows sparked public discussions on child protection.
3.Livelihood and Economic Independence
RWECO helps vulnerable groups—like teenage mothers and youth—escape poverty through practical skills and financial tools. They’ve set up savings groups (SILC) to boost household incomes, provided seeds for growing nutritious crops, and linked communities to income-generating opportunities. By combining economic support with education (e.g., nutrition training), they empower families to improve their health and break cycles of poverty.
These thematic areas reflects RWECO’s goal of creating fairer, safer, and more self-reliant communities in the Rwenzori region and beyond.
