RWECO, as a civil society organization dedicated to good governance, peacebuilding, and violence prevention in homes and communities, has consistently championed these causes by empowering citizens to actively engage in governance processes; promoting constitutionalism and safeguarding human and people’s rights; and fostering meaningful, principled dialogue between rights holders and duty bearers on issues critical to human and democratic development.

During the recently concluded political party primaries, particularly within the NRM for the Members of Parliament, numerous challenges emerged that prompted us to raise our voice in advocacy for peaceful coexistence.
In a joint press statement read before the media on 22nd July 2024 at RWECO offices in Kasese Municipality, Yosia Baluku, the Coordinator for Rwenzori Consortium for Civic Competence (RWECO), called for peaceful living among married couples he asked to allow their spouses choose political leaders of their choices.
He also asked political players especially in the ongoing NRM primary elections and the just concluded FDC vetting, to maintain peace by amicably resolving any frictions that could have occurred during the voting processes.
Yosia also regretted the reported delays by the Kasese district NRM tally centre to announce the results, thereby creating suspicions among a section of voters. He called for calm and handling of the grievances of candidates that alleged being cheated in the elections to keep their party intact.
